What another great year for the Waterfront Clonakilty Marathon. One of the most eagerly awaited events of the year finally got underway. Over 2,700 signed up for this year’s event. It is renowned as the big fun event before Christmas. So many runners look forward to Clonakilty.
This year like most events Clonakilty had to curtail some of its physical extras due to keeping the runners safe. However it did not take away from the hugely fun and loving feel of the event that exemplifies Clonakilty.
The event itself was fantastic as the masses made their way through the town Clonakilty and towards the idyllic and stunning setting of Inchydoney.
The Mini Marathon was won by Kieran McKeown of Waterglass hill in 34:45. Catherina McKiernan took the ladies win for the 3rd time and was 3rd overall home for the 10k.
The Half Marathon was next to come across the line. The winner of was Tudor Moldovan from Clonliffe Harriers and the ladies winner was Niamh Cronin of St Finbarrs AC.
The big race of the day was the Marathon, this was won by Alexander Wallace of St Coca’s AC in a staggering time of 02:32:00. The ladies winner was Tara Malone of 1zero1, Tara won in fantastic time of 03:11:55.
